Pet Car Seat: Why Do I Need One?

“Why do I need to spend money on a pet car seat? After all, my dog is a well behaved one and I drive safely when I have him next to me.” Sounds familiar? Well, at least to me it does. I have heard this sentence from most of my friends who own dogs and when I talk about the necessity of installing a car dog pet seat in their cars, all of them think that I am just being a bit too careful. If you agree with these friends of mine and think that a pet car seat is a waste of money, take out a few minutes of your time and answer these questions–

Taking Tommy out for a drive? Are you sure he will be alright? Okay, so you have trained him on sitting still and being well behaved and instructed him of the dos and don’ts of going on a drive. What’s more, you have also promised him a treat – a nice big juicy bone – when you guys get back if he follows all that you have taught him. But, is this enough? Have you prepared for an eventuality when Tommy might spot a lovely poodle and fall in love with her instantly and want to jump out of the car and join her? What if Tommy spots a cat who is teasing him across the street? Will he sit straight then? And, what about times when you need to brake suddenly? Will Tommy remain safe in his seat at that time?

All these sound unreal, probably like things that always happen to others but will never happen with us. But, accidents do happen (more often than we would want to accept) and things have a tendency to go wrong at just the moment when we think everything is hunky dory. So, it is always better to take a few precautions and be safe. After all, it is your darling pet’s well being at stake and hence a few dollars spent on a car pet car seat would be money well spent.

Installing a car dog pet seat is a wise idea as a pet car seat ensures that our pet does not fly straight out of the front windshield if we bang in to the car before us. The pet car seat also restrains the pet’s movement to a certain extent and this ensures that we are not distracted from the activity of driving the car in order to discipline out pet or to check what he is up to. Even a moment’s distraction can lead to a crash.

Therefore, if you want to go out for a drive with your pet, make sure you have your pet secured in a pet car seat. If we strap our little kids into specially designed car seats to ensure that they remain safe, why should we not do the same for our pets?  Aren’t both special to us and do we not love both our kids and our pets a lot?
